AbouT SASA
Our Mission:
We aim to educate students about South Asian culture, history, and current events; entertain the University community with an array of cultural offerings; and engage members in a diverse, supportive peer network.
Our events are open to all members of the University community, regardless of heritage or familiarity with South Asian culture.
Come to learn, talk about important issues, eat great food, and meet new people!
This organization is a recognized student organization (RSO) at the University of Chicago.
Read our updated organizational bylaws.

Cultural Celebrations
We host large-scale events
that foster joy and learning,
and celebrate the diversity of
South Asian histories, religions,
and traditions.
Signature events such as Diwali, Eid, and Mela bring people together to engage with South Asian culture in meaningful ways through food, music, dress, and shared celebration.

Community Building
SASA fosters connection and belonging through smaller,
more intimate social events
throughout the year.
From family gatherings and study breaks to movie nights and trivia,
these events build friendships
across class years and strengthen
a sense of community within SASA beyond formal programming.

Advocacy + Service
Through community engagement initiatives, SASA promotes
awareness, action, and service
around issues affecting South Asian communities locally and globally.
We organize fundraisers, volunteer opportunities, and collaborations with other student organizations to support causes such as food insecurity, education access, and social justice.

Creative Production
The annual SASA Show, held each spring, is our largest event and a centerpiece of our creative work.
Show celebrates South Asian culture through a student-produced film,
live performances, and artistic expression across dance, fashion, music, and storytelling, bringing together creatives from
across campus.
PARTNER ORGANIZATIONS
SASA is proud to collaborate with student organizations that support and uplift South Asian and allied communities on campus.
Through shared events, cultural programming, and advocacy efforts, our partnerships help strengthen
inter-community connections and foster a more inclusive campus environment.
